Nostalgic Design and Retro Futurism series

Mixed media, mostly cut paper and acrylic. The raised black paper may actually show signs of wear over the years, which can be left to enhance the rustic feel of the work or simply filled in with a black marker. These images are generally inspired by Mid-Century Modernism.

These images are inspired by the designs of the past. Many of them are inspired by Retro Futurism. This is the future that the past envisioned. Googie signs, The Jetsons, Stratocaster guitars with tremolos and rockabilly. Mid-Century Modernism, California Diner architecture, the vast desert filled with neon signs and cars with wings. Tiki art and vintage travel posters...

Today, the Great American Desert is filled with the ghosts of these bygone times: abandoned drive-ins with Googie lettered signs, rustic wood paintings of stylized poster art, old diners… This series is an attempt to capture the essence of retro futurism, the warmth of the desert, the feeling of progress of times past, sharp lines, vast spaces, moonlit sand, roadside motels, Route 66…
