San Francisco Skyline
San Francisco is a beautiful city, full of unique architecture and stunning panoramas. This architectural caricature of the San Francisco Bay was created with Polychromos colored pencils on paper and spans from the Bay Bridge to the iconic Transamerica Pyramid building. It is full of vivid sunset colors, portraying the play of twilight with layers of clouds and fog.

Techy Stuff:
Commissions in colored pencil are created with A.W. Faber Castell Polychromos. These professional quality colored pencils are lightfast, or resistant to fading, easy to blend and layer, and erasable. They are oil based rather than wax-based like traditional colored pencils. Sometimes wax based colored pencils, when layered thickly, can appear foggy as the was rises to the surface. This “wax bloom” is no big deal; the drawing can be polished clean, but it’s a hassle if the drawing is framed. Sometimes I layer on the colors quite thickly, so I decided to use polychromos, even though there are certainly some wax based pencils that are also professional quality.
